During the hot months, many pet owners that naturally open a window or two could be putting their feline friend in harms way. Unscreened windows pose a real danger to cats, who fall out of them so often that the veterinary profession has a name for the complaint—High-Rise Syndrome. Veterinarians at the ASPCA Bergh Memorial Animal hospital can see as many as three to five cats that have gone out a window a week. Injuries from accidents such as these can result in shattered jaws, punctured lungs, broken limbs and pelvises—and even death.
